My Approach
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on current relational patterns and their link to past caregiver relationships. While we will talk about your daily stressors and the "real life problems," I'll be also paying close attention to how you have learned to cope with challenges and navigate connections. We will be noticing how you relate to me and what intimacy is like for you. As I get to know you and your unique story, some patterns and themes may emerge that tell us that there could be some unfinished business somewhere in your past. You may find yourself surprised by what comes to the surface or need to work through some unmet needs with me. This is a good thing! It means that our therapy is doing what it is supposed to do and change is happening on the inside. I might also bring your attention to how some of these patterns show up in your daily life so we can determine if they are helping you thrive or getting in the way of your goals.
But I do want to make this clear: this approach does not mean that we won't talk about the systemic issues that influence your struggles or look at how cultural and societal messages may have shaped you or be adding to your suffering. While I'm known best for deep and long-term work, I readily use psychoeducation and solution-focused interventions that target symptoms if that's what you need to start feeling better. We will get curious about the whole picture, including how you care for yourself, your routines, coping strategies and the people in your life.
